Youth MHFA does not teach people to be therapists. However, it does give a deeper understanding around the issues that relate to young people’s mental health and will teach people to:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health issues

  • Provide initial help and practical skills that can be used every day

  • Enable a young person to access appropriate professional help

  • Recognise the importance of promoting protective factors and good parenting.

This is delivered through four manageable chunks:

  • What is mental health?

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Suicide and psychosis

  • Self-harm and eating disorders

Within each section there is clear focus on the issues faced by young people today, including bullying/cyber bullying and substance misuse.

The course is delivered over two full days and participants must attend both days in full to obtain their certificate. (9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m)
