Learning and Disability Support

Youth Ability delivers inclusive youth clubs across Cumbria for young disabled people (7 to 25 years) to build confidence, develop their skills and capabilities to facilitate a smoother transition to adulthood and leading a more independent life.  The project is delivered across three locations in Cumbria: Barrow-in-Furness, Kendal and Penrith, and primarily works with young people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities - Leonard Cheshirethis external link will open in a new window

CARLISLE MENCAP LIMITEDthis external link will open in a new window - provides life long, person centred support for people with learning disabilities and their families in North Cumbria.

EDEN MENCAPthis external link will open in a new window - is a local charity which provides support services throughout the Eden Valley and Keswick from their offices based in Penrith.  The services specialise in learning disability and autism spectrum disorder to both standard/lower level and high level/complex needs.

CUMBRIA DEAF ASSOCIATIONthis external link will open in a new window - an independent local charity that helps deaf people and their families living in Cumbria to achieve educational, physical, social and spiritual well-being.

OAKLEA TRUSTthis external link will open in a new window - provide high quality personal care.  They aim to enable individuals to be as independent as possible, encouraging individuals to carry out activities themselves or with support. 

GUIDE DOGS FOR THE BLINDthis external link will open in a new window - provider for 'Mobility and Independence Services for Children and Young People with a Visual Impairment; in Cumbria.  This service will identify CYP with a visual impairment and support them to learn effective mobility and independence skills at home, in school, and in the community.

SHORTBREAKS FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES - Group activities for children aged 9-19 with a disability and individual support service for children aged 0-8 years.  This services is to provide parents with a disabled child/children with a break.  There are a number of providers across the county:

CUMBRIA'S LOCAL OFFERthis external link will open in a new window- The Local Offer aims to pull information about available services into one place and make it clear and accessible for you and your family.  A Local Offer gives children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities and their families information about what support services the local authority thinks will be available in their local area.  Every local authority is responsible for writing a Local Offer and making sure it is available for everyone to see.
